a simple map is harder than it looks

Drawing a map is an interestingly tricky design problem.

I work over a Google map (it must have been a whole lot harder when you only had those cumbersome ordnance surveys). It’s a process of choosing the most important routes, then rationalising their connections and the angles between them. All the while trying to remain faithful to the actual geography. Short streets with long names are a real PITA.

It’s not my core business and I don’t get asked to make a map very often, but I get a lot of satisfaction out of it when I do. If by some fluke of a chance you’re reading this and need a map, give me a call. I’ll quote you a good price because it’s fun.
