Filtering the bad stuff

a big machine for tiny particles

I’m a firm believer in life long learning, especially when I’m being paid to learn something new. I didn’t know anything about ceramic filters when I started this job. It was news to me that there is one in my car. But I now have a much better idea of how they work and why they are important.

They filter out diesel and gasoline particulates by trapping them in a honeycomb of ceramic cells. Interestingly, what actually does the filtering is a build-up of particulates on the walls of the otherwise porous filter. So the bad stuff filters out itself! Who knew?

If you watch this video you’ll find out everything you need to corner someone at a dinner party and impress them with your particulate filtering knowledge
